■ SK On’s “SF (Super Fast) Battery” and SKIET’s FCW were selected as the Best of Innovation at CES 2023 Innovation Awards, the best achievement of SK after 4 years of participation in CES

■ 5 products of SK Innovation’s subsidiaries won 8 Innovation Awards Honorees, among which two won Best of Innovation

SK Innovation and its subsidiaries announced that 5 of the company’s products have won 8 Innovation Award Honorees and two Best of Innovation at CES 2023 Innovation Awards. This is a remarkable achievement after four years since SK’s first CES participation in 2019.

On November 16 (US local time), the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which host and organizes CES, announced the winners of CES 2023 Innovation Awards to honor the technologies and products that have outstanding design and engineering. This is an awards program that is held before the main CES show opens, which often takes place in early January every year. Generally, the CTA chooses 20 Best of Innovation Awards and 500 Innovation Award Honorees across nearly 30 categories. Among which, the Best of Innovation is only awarded to a product or service that scores the highest in the field of application, assessed regarding technology, design, innovativeness, etc.

Among SK Innovation’s products that won at CES 2023 Innovation Awards, SK On’s SF battery (Super Fast Battery), officially named E556, was selected as the Best of Innovation in the “Embedded Technologies” category. This is the first in Korean electric vehicle (EV) battery’s history, signifying that the country’s technology and innovativeness has received global recognition.

SF battery is a type of high-nickel battery with 83% nickel content, and with one time of full charge, it can cover over 400 km. Among all the EV batteries that are currently in the market, SF battery has the fastest charging speed. Applying SK On’s special coating method, the battery can be charged up to 80% in just 18 minutes, faster than other products that take 20 to 30 minutes on average. Currently, this battery is used in Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 and KIA’s EV6, which both claimed the Best Cars of the Year 2021/2022.

SKIET’s Flexible Cover Window (hereafter FCW) took the title of the Best of Innovation in the “Mobile Devices & Accessories” category. FCW is a new material that is expected to replace glass on flexible displays used for foldable and rollable electric devices, vehicles, etc. It is constituted of a transparent Poly Imide (PI) film and a functional hard coating, which makes it suitable for foldable phones, and rollable TV displays.

SK On’s SF battery and SKIET’s FCW were also chosen as Honorees in other categories. In addition, other products of SK Innovation’s subsidiaries that won CES 2023 Innovation Award Honorees are: SK Geo Centric’s Lightweight UD Tape for vehicles; SK On’s NCM9 Battery; SKIET’s LiBS (Lithium-ion Battery Separator). Among them, NCM9 (first awarded in 2022) and FCW (first awarded in 2020) have been awarded twice, proving their outstanding technologies.
