Kim Yu-jin: Today, for ‘Into the World of SK’, we’ve come to Vietnam to visit SK Earthon Ho Chi Minh Branch!
Kim Se-ho: Hello! I’m Kim Se-ho, a Reservoir Engineer working at SK Earthon Ho Chi Minh Branch.
Kim Yu-jin: Before we talk about Ho Chi Minh Branch, maybe some people are unfamiliar with SK Earthon since it was established just last year. So, could you briefly introduce SK Earthon to us?
Kim Se-ho: SK Earthon is a subsidiary of SK Innovation, focusing on resource development. It was officially established in October last year. SK Earthon explores major oil blocks all over the world for resources, and it is producing oil and gas! Especially, by promoting the CCS business which captures and stores carbon, SK Earthon is finding ways to transform into a carbon-neutral business.
Kim Yu-jin: I can really feel that you are focusing on eco-friendly business! Now let’s meet the local member working here! Xin chào anh Nam! (Hello, Mr. Nam!)
Ho Van Nam: Hello! My name is Ho Van Nam. I’m a Drilling Engineer at SK Earthon Ho Chi Minh Branch.
Kim Yu-jin:It’s so nice to meet you in person! First, please introduce SK Earthon Ho Chi Minh Branch to us!
Ho Van Nam: SK Earthon Ho Chi Minh Branch was established in 2014 to expand the resource development business in Vietnam. We’ve been managing and operating Oil Block 16-2, and we are also managing and supervising 3 other Oil Blocks with other partner companies (15-1, 15-1/05, 15-2/17).
Kim Yu-jin: Is the branch located in Ho Chi Minh City because it’s easier to operate the oil blocks?
Kim Se-ho: You’re right. SKEO is participating in multiple oil blocks in Vietnam, and it is also easier to obtain operatorship of the new blocks here.
We are in Ho Chi Minh City for efficient cooperation with the Vietnamese state-owned oil company Petrovietnam, its subsidiary PVEP, and Cuu Long JOC.
Kim Yu-jin: Wow, the Ho Chi Minh Branch is indeed a significant business site for SK Earthon! Actually, Vietnam is a country that’s very important to me personally as well.
Ho Van Nam: Oh, really? How?
Kim Yu-jin: Because I love Vietnamese food so much! Pho, bun cha, banh mi, you name it… I am a V-food lover!
Ho Van Nam: Well then you’re in the right place. There are many restaurants near our office. Also, Vietnamese people love beer, so many people go out for beer in the evening and enjoy street food.
Kim Yu-jin: There’s nothing better than a bottle of ice-cold beer on a summer night. No matter what happens, I am going to eat pho.
Ho Van Nam: Oh, you know what, in fact Pho is more like a breakfast meal for us than for lunch or dinner.
Kim Se-ho: So we drink beer at night, and pho for the hangover the next morning? Sounds so Korean!
Kim Yu-jin: Since Vietnamese cuisine is so delicious, could you recommend some more?
Ho Van Nam: Many people think of pho, bun cha, banh mi, and others when it comes to Vietnamese food, but Vietnam is also famous for its coffee!
Kim Yu-jin: Like having pho for hangovers and the love for coffee, I think Vietnam shares many things in common with Korea. By the way, aren’t SK Earthon HCM Branch the first overseas site that participated in the ‘EnviRun for the Earth Campaign’ this year?
Ho Van Nam: Oh, yes, we did. We recently participated in a plogging activity. I think this campaign is highly meaningful to our society. I was very excited and proud to take part in this activity. And I’m also looking forward for tomorrow to participate in the Mangrove Reforestation Project in Tra Vinh province.
Kim Yu-jin: Yes, that’s right! I will also go there. I will do my best to plant mangrove trees!
Ho Van Nam: The working environment here is very friendly. We work like a family, it’s really warm and encouraging here. We’re all professionals while working, but generally speaking, we’re surrounded by good and nice members.
Kim Se-ho: I agree! It’s really like family here in SK Earthon. Our Vietnamese colleagues try hard to teach me one Vietnamese phrase every day, even though I can’t say any of them yet.

Kim Yu-jin: For me, this is the first time I actually went to an overseas business site after starting ‘Into the World of SK’ series. It is such an honor for me to meet local members. Into the World of SK, we go anywhere in the world as long as SK Innovation is there! Let’s call it a day here.
