SK Wonderland creates theme park with magic carpet ride, AI fortune teller and dancing EV

Futuristic experience backed by solutions developed by SK companies and their partners

LAS VEGAS, January 9, 2024 – As the world gathers to see the latest innovations, SK Group unveiled Tuesday at CES 2024 a dazzling display of world-leading Artificial Intelligence (AI) and carbon reduction technologies under an amusement park concept called “SK Wonderland.”

SK Wonderland provided CES attendees a view of a world that uses the latest AI and clean technologies from SK companies and their business partners to a create a smarter, greener world. Highlights of the booth included:

●  Magic Carpet Ride in a flying vehicle embedded with an AI processor that helps it navigate dense, urban areas – reducing pollution, congestion and commuting frustrations

●  AI Fortune Teller powered by next-generation memory technologies that can help computers analyze and learn from massive amounts of data to predict the future

●  Dancing Car that’s fully electric, able to recharge in 20 minutes or less and built to travel hundreds of miles between charges

●  Clean Energy Train that’s capable of being powered by hydrogen, whose only emission is water

●  Rainbow Tube that shows how plastics are finding a new life through a technology that turns waste into fuel

SK Group, South Korea’s second-largest conglomerate, built the theme park at CES to draw attention to how technology can be applied to make our world better and solve major global challenges. In addition to SK Wonderland, a separate “SK ICT Family Demo Room” exhibit showcased AI technologies ranging from a location analysis platform to a pet diagnostic assistant. Both booths are on display through Friday at the Las Vegas Convention Center’s Central Hall.

SK’s CES displays include participation from seven SK companies — SK Inc., SK Innovation, SK hynix, SK Telecom, SK E&S, SK Ecoplant and SKC. While the displays are futuristic, they’re based on technologies that SK companies and their global partners have already developed and are bringing to market.

For example, the Magic Carpet Ride is based on an Urban Air Mobility vehicle – a small, flying vehicle that uses an AI processor from SAPEON, an SK Telecom subsidiary, to detect and analyze safety factors during flight. The AI Fortune Teller is built on advanced memory solutions from SK hynix that support generative AI applications and a glass substrate from Absolics, an SKC subsidiary, that helps increase the performance and reduce the power usage of computers.

The Dancing Car and Clean Energy Train are based on EV batteries from SK On and hydrogen energy solutions being developed by SK E&S. The Rainbow Tube is inspired by SK Geo Centric, which is building one of the world’s most advanced recycling centers in Korea.

In addition to staging the immersive exhibits, SK’s top global leadership, including SK Chairman Tae-won Chey, are attending CES to strengthen global partnerships in AI and clean tech.
