■ Company’s Quality Management Division accredited as international calibration laboratory by KOLAS with enhanced capabilities
SK On, a leading global electric vehicle (EV) battery and trading company, announced today it has been accredited as an international calibration laboratory with upgraded calibration capabilities as the company bolsters its quality control system.
SK On’s Quality Management Division was recognized as an international calibration laboratory by the Korea Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (KOLAS) under the Korean Agency for Technology and Standard following its renewal assessment.
The KOLAS is an organization that is in charge of establishment of national standard systems and operation of industrial standardizations. It oversees accreditation of testing, calibration laboratories and inspection bodies that handles safety and quality evaluation of products and services in compliance with international standards.
The accreditation, which SK On first acquired four years ago, proves that SK On is able to provide calibration services with its measurement tools guaranteeing high precision and reliability. The KOLAS recognized that SK On’s battery cell quality testing equipment, such as thermal chambers, delivers highly accurate measurement data across four categories: voltage, current, temperature and humidity.
In particular, the KOLAS has accredited SK On’s expanded measurement range within each calibration category. (▲Voltage, ±0.1V to ±1000V ▲Current, ±0.1A to ±1000A ▲Temperature, -40℃ to 200℃ ▲Humidity, 50% to 95%) This means that the company can accurately evaluate the quality of battery cells in more extreme conditions.
With its accredited calibration laboratory, SK On can enhance quality assessment efficiency, saving time and costs compared to using external calibration agencies. Typically, battery companies need to undergo annual evaluations by external agencies to verify that their testing equipment maintains consistent performance.
SK On has been proactively strengthened its calibration and measurement capabilities since 2017. Particularly, SK On has been fostering calibration specialists and building management know-hows so that its testing equipment can deliver precise data. Currently, SK On’s calibration report is recognized by 74 accreditation bodies from 65 countries.
“With the latest accreditation and expanded measurement range, SK On has established a battery quality assurance process that can be trusted internationally,” said Yea Pil-soo, Head of Quality Management Division at SK On. “SK On will continue strengthening battery quality control quality management systems.”
