■ Subsidiaries of SK Innovation will exhibit technologies employed for business strategies and products that won Best of Innovation at CES 2023 Innovation Awards
■ 5 products including SK On’s SF batteries and SKIET’s FCW won CES 2023 Innovation Awards in 8 categories
■ SK Innovation said to “continue to develop its own technologies in green energy and materials as well as invest in and cooperate with leading companies in the world”
On December 20 (KST), SK Innovation announced that it will attend CES 2023 in Las Vegas in January next year with its subsidiaries including SK Energy, SK Geo Centric, SK Enmove, SK On, SK IE Technology (SKIET) and SK Earthon. Under the statement “Together in Action,” which is the main theme of SK’s exhibition at CES 2023, SK Innovation and its subsidiaries will showcase various achievements of their journey toward Net Zero future by implementing “Carbon to Green” strategy.
At the upcoming CES, SK Innovation will reveal future growth portfolio contents built with multiple global partners. These will include SK On’s EV battery that is the first among SK Group to have won Best of Innovation at CES 2023 Innovation Awards, and various innovative technologies of other subsidiaries. Visitors at SK’s booth at CES 2023 will have a chance to look at where SK Innovation and its subsidiaries are heading for their future growth.
Earlier, SK Innovation announced its green anchoring strategy under which it will expand into lithium-ion battery separator (LiBS) and next generation materials, building from its battery business. Also announced was its Green Transformation strategy aimed at transforming its existing carbon-emitting business into green.
As a result, multiple products and technologies of SK Innovation’s subsidiaries that adopted the Green Transformation strategy have been recognized at CES Innovation Awards. Five of the company’s products have won eight Innovation Award Honorees and two Best of Innovations at CES 2023 Innovation Awards. This is a remarkable achievement after four years since SK’s first CES participation in 2019.
The two products of SK Innovation’s subsidiaries that were named Best of Innovation Awards are SK On’s Super Fast Battery (SF Battery) and SKIET’s Flexible Cover Window (FCW).
SF Battery is a high-nickel battery with 83% of nickel content. On a single charge, it can travel more than 400 km and be charged up to 80% in just 18 minutes, which is the fastest among EV batteries currently sold in the market. The battery powers Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 and Kia’s EV6 named the car of the year at numerous awards.
SKIET’s FCW is a new material that can replace glass of flexible displays used in various applications such as foldable and rollable electronic devices and automobiles. The polyimide with functional hard coating is used for foldable phones and rollable TV displays.
The award honorees also include SK Geo Centric’s Lightweight UD (Uni-directional) Tape, which is the first-time winner of CES Innovation. UD Tape is a functional composite material with plastic structure reinforced with fiber-type agent. This new material is expected to replace metals. The other products of SK Innovation subsidiaries that were selected as Honorees of CES 2023 Innovation Awards are SK On’s NCM9+ Battery and SKIET’s LiBS (Lithium-ion Battery Separator).
CES 2023 visitors will also be able to check the technologies of SK Innovation’s global partners. Previously, SK Innovation announced at the Global Forum held in San Francisco in June that its focus would be on electrification and recycling when building its investment portfolio for future growth.
A prototype of solid-state batteries developed by Solid Power, the global partner of SK On, will be displayed at the tech event as well. This battery is expected to offer 33% higher energy density than the existing lithium-ion batteries. On a single charge, an EV powered by the battery can drive about 930km.
CES 2023 will also be a stage where SK Innovation will showcase SMRs (developed by TerraPower) and ammonia used as fuel cells (by Amogy), all of which the energy company invested in recognizing their growth potential in electrification as the world tries to achieve zero-carbon and low-carbon energy transition.

The CES 2023 show floor will also feature Battery Metal Recycle (BMR), SK Innovation’s business of recycling old batteries as well as CCUS of SK Energy and SK Earthon and SK Enmove’s EV Fluid.
“We are excited to showcase SK Innovation’s green business strategy and future direction at CES 2023, one of the world’s most influential tech events,” said Kim Woo-kyung, Head of SK Innovation PR Office. “We will continue to not only develop our own technologies but invest in and cooperate with the world’s leading and promising companies in tech sectors,” she added.
