On September 10 (local time), SK Battery Hungary (hereafter “SKBH”) was honored to receive the “State Representative Enterprise Award” from Komárom-Esztergom County, where its business site is located, for its contribution to the local community. Held at the Komárom-Esztergom County Office located at Tatabánya city, the award event was attended by President of Komárom-Esztergom County Council Popovics György, Deputy Minister of Justice Dr. Völner Pál, Hungarian Government Commissioner Dr. Kancz Csaba, CEO of SKBH Han Sang-kyu, and other local officials.

Hungary is a key base for SK Innovation to launch into the European electric vehicle (EV) battery market. The company’s first battery plant in Hungary is located at Komárom and operating with an annual capacity of 7.5GWh. Another 9.8 GWh plant is also being built in the same city. Besides, SK Innovation announced to build new plants with total annual production capacity of 31 GWh at , Iváncsa, which is about 50 km southwest from Budapest.

As part of ESG management, SK Innovation emphasize interactions with the local communities and its role as a corporate citizen wherever its business is. The company believes that frequent communication and cooperation with the locals are the key to business success and the basis for common growth.
Protecting the environment around its manufacturing plants has always been one of the most prioritized mission of the company. Earlier, in June this year, SK Battery Hungary members, including CEO Hang Sang-kyu, participated in tree planting volunteer activity near its Komárom factory. The event was joined by Komárom Mayor and other leaders of the city to improve the local environment together.

In addition to environment protection, as part of its ESG management, SK Battery Hungary has been committing in other social contribution activities for years. In 2019, the company donated 15 million Forints (about USD 50,000) over two years to three public foundations in Komárom city. Last year, it also delivered 16 million Forints (about USD 53,000) to help the local community fight against COVID-19.
