With the year drawing to a close, SK Innovation invited Global Communication Coordinators (“Comm. Coordinators”) to Korea, where the company’s headquarters and first manufacturing facility are located, and held a three-day workshop from November 23 to 25. The workshop also acts as a platform for all Comm. Coordinators around the world to show their “One Team Spirit.”
The Comm. Coordinators are responsible for promoting SK Innovation globally and communicating with the company’s overseas and domestic members. With the expansion of its global businesses, SK Innovation has selected Comm. Coordinators in its major overseas operations starting April last year to spread the corporate culture of “Separately but Together” and facilitate smooth communication with its global businesses and members. Currently, 30 Coordinators are actively engaged at 28 workplaces in 16 countries.

On the 23rd, after the Comm. Coordinators across the world arrived in Korea, they attended an orientation session ahead of the workshop at Acadia, a training center of SK Group at Grand Walkerhill Seoul. There the Coordinators spent time to greet each other and introduce themselves as this is the first time they gathered in person ever since the Comm. Coordinators program launched.

On the following day, they visited SK Innovation Ulsan Complex (Ulsan CLX), the main production base and origin of SK Innovation as a petrochemical and energy company. There they toured around to check the production facilities at Ulsan CLX, which was built on 8.3 million square meter land – about the size of 1,156 soccer fields. The Comm. Coordinators were also able to check with their own eyes how Ulsan CLX is making earnest efforts to take Green Innovation and reach Net Zero target.

After the Ulsan CLX visit, the Comm. Coordinators headed to Busan, Korea’s second largest city and an aspiring host of the World Expo 2030. They toured some of the famous locations in the port city, experienced the local foods and culture, and showed their support for the World Expo 2030 Busan.

On November 25, the workshop’s main program was held in SK Innovation Headquarters at SK Seorin Building, located in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Before the main program started, the Comm. Coordinators toured around the Headquarters building to experience multiple spaces designed to serve the happiness of the company’s members.
During the main workshop session, the staff from SK Innovation Value Creation Center, which is the host of the program, restated the company’s key communication channels and relevant tasks to the Comm. Coordinators. Exemplary cases that show enthusiastic activities of the Comm. Coordinators in 2022 in various overseas businesses were also presented to review the best practice and share experiences. The Comm. Coordinators also discussed SK Innovation’s major ESG programs and next year’s operation strategy with the members from the headquarter and showed their willingness to fulfill their roles as Comm. Coordinators in the future.

Through a special video message, SK Innovation Vice Chairman & CEO Kim Jun praised the Comm. Coordinators for their active participation as bridges of communication between Korea and abroad and thanked them for their enthusiasm.
The workshop continued with the Recognition Awards given to the most outstanding Comm. Coordinators for their proactive engagement. Eight employees from six global businesses, which included SK On Hungary, SK hi-tech battery materials Poland (SKBMP), SK hi-tech battery materials China (SKBMC), SK Energy International (SKEI), SK Primacor Europe (SKPE), and SK Earthon Ho Chi Minh Branch were chosen to be the best cases. Head of Value Creation Center Lim Su-kil delivered the Recognition Awards to the best Comm. Coordinators on behalf of the company and thanked them for connecting the Headquarters and local sites, helping members of the company across the world get closer and learn more about each other.

The Comm. Coordinators will continue to take the initiative in SK Innovation’s ESG efforts around the world and serve as channels for spreading the company’s corporate culture to its global members.
