On May 17^th, SK IE Technology’s Chinese subsidiary SK hi-tech battery materials Jiangsu (hereafter “SKIET LiBS⁽¹⁾ Changzhou”) participated in the “East Asia Advanced Equipment, New Energy Industry Exchange (hereinafter referred to as “Changzhou Exchange Meeting”).” The exchange meeting was part of the “Taihu East Asian Entrepreneurs Forum (hereinafter referred to as “Taihu Forum”)” hosted by the Jiangsu government.

(1) LiBS: Lithium-ion Battery Separator

The Taihu Forum was held to further strengthen the economic and trade cooperation between Jiangsu (China) and Korean, Japanese corporates, as well as inspiring a new dynamic for mutual development. As a sub-forum of the Taihu Forum, the Changzhou Exchange Meeting was hosted by Changzhou city, and SKIET LiBS⁽¹⁾ Changzhou was invited to participate as a representative of Korean investment companies located in Changzhou city.

Korea is one of four major trading partners in Jiangsu. The trade volume between Jiangsu and Korea accounts for 24.2% of the total trade volume between China and Korea. SK Innovation and SK IE Technology are among various Korean companies that are investing in Jiangsu.

CEO of SKIET LiBS Changzhou Choi Young-ho was invited as a representative entrepreneur at the Changzhou Exchange Meeting. Aside from meeting with local key figures, such as the Vice-chairman of the Jiangsu Political Consultative Conference, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Changzhou City, CEO Choi also delivered a speech to the participants of the event.

In his speech, CEO Choi said, “In order to join the development of the Chinese market, the world’s largest eco-friendly electric vehicle manufacturing country, SK IE Technology has successfully built a factory in Jintan Economic Development Zone in Changzhou with the best technology, operational techniques, and latest facilities.” He also expressed gratitude for the local government’s continued cooperation and active support by stating, “Thanks to the cooperation and support of the Changzhou government during the entire process, including the factory construction, our project is going smoothly.”

“Based on the best competitiveness in the global LiBS market, SK IE Technology will become an exemplary company that will grow with the local community and share happiness together,” CEO Choi added. “We will continue to discover opportunities to grow with China’s eco-friendly energy industry.”

SKIET LiBS Changzhou has been recognized by the local government for its continuous investment in China. In February, it was awarded the “Major Investment Projects Award” during the “2020 Changzhou City Major Investment Project Awards” held at the Changzhou City Administrative Center as part of the Innovation and Development Conference.

SKIET LiBS Changzhou was honored with the award in recognition of its consistent investment despite the difficulty in global investment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the second year in a row that the company received this award.

A few days after the Changzhou Exchange Meeting, SKIET Changzhou welcomed a group of local governors lead by Mayor of Changzhou Chen Jinhu (陈金虎) on May 25^th. The purpose of Changzhou City leaders’ visit was to have a better understanding of SK IE Technology’s LiBS project, which had been previously discussed at the Changzhou Exchange Meeting.

The Mayor of Changzhou City, along with other guests, took a closer look at the LiBS and CCS⁽²⁾ production lines at SKIET LiBS Changzhou’s plant and gave compliments to the company for successfully carrying out the project despite the pandemic. The group of guests also promised their support and interest towards SKIET LiBS Changzhou in the future while touring around the factory.
